27 May 2015 | Pan Pacific Singapore
Singapore, 27 May 2015—In a nod to Singapore’s rich culinary heritage, Pan Pacific Singapore’s dedicated chefs have handcrafted a quintet of unique homemade sambals based on heirloom recipes. To commemorate the nation’s fiftieth birthday, Pacific Marketplace presents these five exquisite traditional meal accompaniments that are perfect as gifts or to add a zesty heat to homemade dishes.
Spice up the celebrations with tantalising flavours including Sambal Tumis with Honey Mango. Stir-fried with belachan, shrimps and tamarind skin, the paste is then blended with Honey Mango resulting in a dulcet concoction of fruity flavours.
Turn the heat up a notch with the Red Sambal Belado—a fiery blend featuring red chilli padi mixed with fresh tomatoes and kaffir lime leaves that present a piquant tang to enhance any meal.
The savoury Salted Fish Sambal would satisfy those with a penchant for robust flavours. Preserved mackerel and belachan are first sautéed with garlic, and the divine blend is then pounded with fresh red chilli with a pestle and mortar creating a heady mixture.
Kampong Sambal presents a visual twist with its green hues imparted by fresh green chillies and green chilli padi. Infused with a generous serving of Ikan Bilis (dried anchovies), this enticing paste is the perfect complement to fried vegetables or classic fried rice.
Inspired by Thai cuisine, our chefs put their personal spin on the traditional paste with the Sambal Belachan with Thai Basil and Pineapple. Chopped pineapple and basil leaves are pounded to extract their juices, and then mixed with the fragrant Sambal Belachan to result in a sweet, textured condiment perfect with soups.
Available in sets of five, the Sambal collection is available for takeaway at Pacific Marketplace and Edge from 1 June to 31 August 2015, and is priced at S$50. Guests may also order the set online at pacificmarketplace.sg.
